As the KBFA team returns back from an amazing week at Art Basel Miami, we wanted to take a moment to highlight one of our many partners, Esteban Salazar from this year’s exclusive experiences, curated by Kevin Barry Fine Art.
Our first partner feature is designer Esteban Salazar. Driven by innovation and a focus on striking and functional environments, Esteban established Design Lab, an international firm based in Costa Rica, as a real lab built around the value of co-creation that transforms client goals into truly unique atmospheres. As an art consultancy, we love partnering with Design Lab as they cross over on various fields of design, ranging from interior design projects to temporary architecture and event design. We sat down with Esteban to recount Art Basel Miami 2017.

KBFA – Tell us about your design inspiration for the KBFA rooftop party
ES: Tropical jungle meets South Beach on the magnificent rooftop penthouse at the Nautilus Hotel, surrounded by impressive art installations. A mystical ambience, the digital world, neon contrasts and unique lighting were strategically thought out to blend in with the vibrant Miami scene on this special occasion.
KBAA – What are some of your favorite design elements
ES: Some of my favorite design elements include special effects created by the lighting and neon glows projected on a variety of elements, including crystals, plants, walls and even party guests.

The resulting blend of elements, shapes and textures come together to demonstrate the unique and creatively inspired soul of each individual project.
Several of our hospitality projects have turned into paradigms. Andaz Papagayo Peninsula Resort by Hyatt Hotels, where the local flora inspired us to create the branding concept identity of the hotel and their back office graphic concept of Corporate Identity. The interior design for the Sheraton Hotel rooftop bar 8ctavo in Costa Rica, the first project in this category in Central America. Interior design for Punta Islita Hotel (Autograph Collection) where we also advised the artist’s community group. Interior design for The Alta Hotel, the John Deere center for construction in Costa Rica and Puerto Viejo Restaurant in Brooklyn New York selected by Vogue Latin America to be the set of their fashion video editorial this past September just to name a few.
