Claremont Club & Spa – A Fairmont Hotel, Berkeley CA
The Claremont Fairmont’s history is classic California through and through. Built from Gold Rush riches, this Berkeley Hills castle was converted into a hotel in 1915 and has been a fixture on the Berkeley landscape ever since. When Kevin Barry Fine Art set about curating the hotel art for this property, highlighting its history and maintaining its classic English charm was at the forefront of our art consultants’ minds.

The art of the Claremont celebrates the city of Berkeley through historic maps and photos of from the Bay Area’s early-1900s past. Delicate, floral-inspired pieces in blues and purples compliment the black, white and sepia tones of the photographs that line its halls. An observant guest might notice an ethereal quality added to the historic photographs by the encaustic, frosted processing on some of the art pieces — a nod to the hotel’s rumored paranormal activity. Whether you believe in spirits or not, you’re sure to be moved by the spirit of this beautiful storied property should you find yourself on a getaway in the Berkeley Hills.
