The mural is a contemporized reimagining of the San Francisco City Seal. A dahlia flower has replaced the 1906 Fire Phoenix symbol in the original, making a new symbol that represents the diversity of the city with the imagery of many petals coalescing to create one giant bloom. The original text is an epic poem in vignettes that tells an impressionistic narrative of different time periods in the history of the city, from the carving of the bay landscape by glaciers in the last ice age all the way to the present day.

This hotel art piece is a love poem to the city and offers a place for contemplation and reflection for travelers and locals alike as they walk through this bustling tourist spot.

“Bryan’s work on this mural is truly astonishing; it is such an impressive and thoughtful piece of art. This piece enhances everything around it and compliments not just the Marriott property but the whole of Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s not easy to stand out in such a high-traffic area, but this mural is holds it own in a beautiful way.”
